northbound side is the one getting more action. there is encouraging news this morning from tucson. congresswoman gabrielle giffords is breathing without the help of a machine. >> emily schmidt has the latest congresswoman and the fallout from the rampage. >> her condition has been upgraded from critical to serious. she is breathing on her own. she has a tracheotomy that will allow her to speak when she is able. >> it is much more comfortable. she's more weight and she can participate in more of her own care and physical guarantee. >> she is one of three shooting victims still in hospital more than a week after the shooting. >> i looked over and it was, bang, bang, bang. >> survivors are trying to come to grips. his wife brought a nine-year-old neighbor with them to the event.

>> she took a little neighbor's girl way that morning and was not able to bring her home. >> the accused gunman is still not speaking about his actions. >> we need to have a more constructive political discourse in the future. >> president obama and members of congress call for more civility in washington. this week the house votes on appealing health care reform. in washington, emily schmidt, abc news. the young girl was to life in the shooting helped to save someone else's. christina taylor green's father says that some of her organs were donated to a young girl in the boston area. he says the donations lifted his spirits. the tragedy in tucson may lead to a change of tone in washington. many expect the atmosphere to be different when congress returns to capitol hill this week. however, the change in tone could subside quickly.

welcome back. more signs of improvement for aris on a congresswoman gabrielle giffords. just over a week after she was shot in the head during an event in tucson, doctors have upgraded her condition from critical to serious. she is breathing on her own and doctors say that she's more awake. of virginia family says the u.s. government is blocking a 19-year-old man from returning

to this country. gulet mohamed was supposed to return home on a flight from kuwait, but his name is on the no-fly list and he was not allowed to board the plane. at least 15 people were killed when a minibus exploded in a request pakistan. the blast was caused by either a palm or a gas cylinder used to power the bus. islamic militants frequently carry out attacks in that area. 5:15. saturday was martin luther king's 82nd birthday. today marks 25 years the country has honored the civil rights leader with a national holiday. ben is on the national mall with some ways people will honor the active list and how you can get involved. >> good morning. one thing is almost certain, our region will be a better place. it is all in honor of dr. martin luther king jr.. throughout the region, the kids are working on a variety of

eastern seaboard and will, coastal low pressure system tonight and tomorrow as it moves up the eastern seaboard. that is when it will affect us later tonight and into tomorrow. here's the future cast. it paints a good picture of what we can expect in terms of precipitation and when. 8:00 p.m. tonight, areas of blue indicates light snow and sleet. that's for the metro area from 8:00 p.m. through 11:00 p.m. the stimulation of an inch. then we change over to a brief freezing rain and up until 1:00 a.m. so between 11:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m., a brief, freezing rain across parts of the metro area. that's expected in the northwest of town as well. a light coating of ice on top of an inch of sleet. then it changes the cold rain by 5:00 a.m. with the exception of west of the blue ridge. that is where i could have prolonged freezing rain throughout this event.

in washington, lawmakers are going to return to regular schedule for the first time since the shootings. as they do, and their colleague injured that day is making remarkable improvements. last night the doctors upgraded congresswoman gabrielle giffords' condition from critical to serious. now she has a breathing tube and is breathing on on. the tracheotomy will allow her to speak when she is able. she's one of three shooting victims still in hospital more than a week after the shooting. authorities say the accused gunman jared loughner is still not talking to them about his actions. the washington post is reporting federal sources say that this trial could be moved to california because of all the publicity in arizona. president obama and members of congress have called for more stability in washington after the shooting. we will see that put to the test over the this week. within the next couple days we

should see the house voting on whether to repeal the health care reform law. back to you. as the house considers that bill, a new poll finds that opposition may be diminishing. an associated press poll finds that 40% of americans support the law while 41% are in opposition. the poll finds strong opposition to the requirement that people carry health insurance. do this morning, investigators searched for the gunman responsible for a deadly shooting in annapolis. a man was found shot to death at the annapolis town center around 1:00 this morning. so far, parties have not identified the victim or what led to the shooting. the death penalty could soon be used again in maryland. the state senate president mike miller will push the region to resume with the death penalty

she is one of sri shooting victims still in the hospital. it's more than a week after the deadly rampage. 4 prescored director and vice presidential candidate sargent shriver is in the bethesda hospital. suburban hospital will not say why the 95-year-old was admitted or comment on his condition. he suffers from alzheimer's. jean-claude duvalier, former dictator nicknamed baby doc, has returned to haiti. supporters mobbed him when he arrived. he left haiti in 1986 after being forced out. it's not clear why he returned. prince george's county police are searching for a hit- and-run driver that killed a pedestrian and around 9:30 saturday night near new hampshire avenue in adelphi. a second car also struck the pedestrian, but at driver status scene. anyone with information is asked to contact police. police are investigating the

north, and the eastern seaboard. as it passes close to washington, we will see precipitation later tonight and throughout the day tomorrow. here's the futurecast. look at the upper right of your screen for the time span. we go through this real easily. by 8:00 p.m. i expect areas of light snow and sleet through 11:00 p.m. in the metro area and points north and west. up to an inches possible. not a big deal. a light coating. then it's going to get tricky. there is warmer air moving into the region. we will see a change over to a brief time of freezing rain for a few hours. so there's a little ice that's one to be on top a little snow and sleet. 1:00 a.m. and later and throughout the day tomorrow, and just rain. that's for the majority of the reason.
